Body modification is sometimes seen as a form of Self-Mutilation, but it is just as often held up as an example of self-expression. Body modification is an ancient tradition in many cultures. It can have a special significance for many people. Take my story for an example. body modification has helped me reclaim my body after sexual assault and depression. It allowed me the opportunity to reinvent myself. I didn't go overboard. In fact most people never even notice my piercings ass they are fairly discrete. Body modification can be a matter of contention in certain places. Body modification is transforming of the general human body make-up for a variety of reasons.

Body modification has been significant parts of human culture as far back as records indicate. Body modification is just a way for people to look how they wish to look which is no doubt why it has exploded into a new generation, and with it comes many controversies. Piercings that were once considered tribal or barbaric are now part of mainstream culture. Piercings can be stretched and enlarged over time by increasing the gauge, or size, of the piercing needle and jewelry. Piercings can attract the opposite sex and appear attractive to others in general. Piercings are removable - but tend to leave scars.

Piercings are often seen as a way to attract the opposite sex, and many have sexual connotations. One such piercing is the nipple. The nipple is a popular choice because it is fleshy enough to pierce securely behind plenty of skin to prevent rejection . Nipple piercing is a piercing, centered usually at the base of the nipple.

No Need To Panic When Basement Flooding Looms

Basement flooding is a concern for a large number of America property owners. This is even more of a concern in areas where there is heavy rain on a regular basis, but even one big storm can cause havoc. That is why waterproofing the basement of your property is important if you ever want to put it into use. The following three tips will help you to reduce the threat posed by basement flooding.

  1. First of all, you need to install a sump pump. If your basement is below the water table and has no sump pump then you are at serious risk of flooding next time there is some heavy rainfall. A sump pump can help to pump out excess water.
  2. Once the sump pump is installed, makes sure you have a battery backup. Most property owners skip this step, but if the flooding results in power outage your sump pump is rendered useless, so having a battery powered back up is a major safety measure.
  3. Waterproofing the basement by sealing off any weak spots and problem areas will go a long way to preventing basement flooding in your home.

If, despite your best efforts, you do experience basement flooding the main thing is not to panic. It's not the end of the word. Take immediate action and call in a professional restoration company. The best service providers are available say and night and will come out there and then to start pumping out the water and drying your flooring and furniture. The worst of the damage is done after 24 hours of water exposure so it is important that you do not wait and take action to resolve the flooding immediately.

Body Modification And It's Effect On Self Esteem

It's sad, but true : many women have very low self esteem, especially when it comes to their bodies. We are bombarded by images of celebrities with perfect bodies and we believe that we must reach that unattainable benchmark. We never stop to think that those images are photo-shopped and that these women have surgery and expensive treatments to make them look that way. Women are constantly looking for ways to boost their self esteem and as a result I don't think any woman can honestly say they have never indulged in one form of body modification or another. Whether we choose make up; hair color; tattoos; cosmetic surgery or a body piercing at the end of the day we are all customizing our bodies to try and build up our self esteem. But does it actually work?

Confucius is quoted to have said, 'True quality of life comes from a lasting harmony between the body and the mind.' This can be interpreted as saying when you look good – you feel better. This is true. How many of us can wake up feeling rotten then slicked on a bit of foundation and lipstick to give us a little boost? How many of get a spring in our step when we wear that one killer outfit? In fact, a recent study found that make up and hair dye does have a direct positive effect on self esteem. It's not about vanity. Its about confidence.

So, does that mean that those who indulge in body modification such as piercings and tattoos are also just boosting their own self esteem? I think to a certain extent we can say that this is actually very true. After all, many of the reasons citied for such practices are for the aesthetic appeal or to fit in with a certain culture. Isn't that the same as boosting your confidence? A study conducted by Carroll & Anderson revealed that people who have moderate to heavy tattoos are noticeably more self confident. In addition to this, tattoo artists say that the majority of customers are getting a tattoo as a symbol that they have moved on from some negative aspect of their life.

So does body modification improve your self esteem? I think so!

5 Common Sources Of Mold In The Kitchen

The kitchen can be a haven for molds, but if you are aware of the most common causes then it is possible to either prevent them from forming or clean them up and remove the cause. Let's take a look of some of the most common mold hotspots in the kitchen and how to combat them.

  1. The Refrigerator – One of the worst places for mold growth in the kitchen is the drip tray of your refrigerator. It is so easy to forget about, but you really must check it 3 or 4 times a year. The drip tray is usually found under the fridge. Tucked in behind the fan at the bottom of the appliance. It is also important to clear out and old food from the refrigerator itself. A weekly clean should help with this.
  2. The Garbage Disposal – Rotting food is a huge attraction for mold and if you do not keep your garbage disposal unit clean then it will soon become infested with mold. Run your garbage disposal at least once a day and then once per week pour 3 or 4 cups of vinegar down the unit to clean it.
  3. Garbage – You should empty your kitchen garbage can every day to avoid mold growth. If you want to be sure you will do so, then buy a garbage can which is smaller and will hold no more than a day's garbage.
  4. Potatoes – Believe it or not potatoes are a huge cause of mold in the kitchen. There is nothing worse than rotting fruit and vegetables. It is important to check and clean room temperature food storage regularly.
  5. Cutting Boards – Cutting boards are also a haven for mold and it can grow on them very rapidly. As well as washing the cutting board after use, you should clean it with vinegar once a week. Let the vinegar set for 10 minutes before rinsing it off.

Nipple Piercing & Breast Feeding

One of my friends totally shocked me this week by going to get her nipples pierced! She isn't some hardcore body modification nut, she only has her ears pierced and she has never even expressed even the remotest interest in nipple piercing or any other piercing. In fact the odd time the topic has come up she seems to be a bit uncomfortable or grossed out, so it was definitely something of a shock when she came over all excited and whipped open her shirt to show me!!

Nipple piercing isn't something I have considered myself, despite my other body piercings, so I was really interested in how it went. She told me that as long ass there are no complications they would heal up in 2 to 4 months. That seems like a really long time, but I guess it isn't really. The piercer did warn that some people find it is about 18 months before they heal properly.

The piercer did mention something interesting to her afterwards. I guess they were talking about if they had kids and stuff and my friend said no but she would like some in future. The piercer suddenly said, “well you can still breastfeed.” She thought it strange at the time, but talking about it we agreed that it is actually something you probably never think about when getting a nipple piercing, but once we did we kind of leaned towards thinking you wouldn't be able to! So we looked up some information and so long as it's done properly and the milk ducts are not damaged you can easily breast feed although you do need to take the jewellery out obviously.

Let's Talk Organic Body Plugs

Plugs have become very common nowadays. Their beauty is making young teen really envy their mates who have the same kind of plugs. They can be worn on any part of the body. They can be worn on the ears, nose, lips, navel and other various parts of the body. Plugs are divided into different types according to the material used to make them. They can either be made from metal, gold, silver, shells, horns and other materials. Those made of natural materials are called organic plugs.

Most people prefer using organic plugs since they are cheap, light, can be found almost in all stall and those are just a few reasons. They are very beautiful resulting to high sales. However, before wearing an organic plug your ears should be pierced properly. After piercing, it is time to enlarge the hole to the desired size. There are various ways that one can increase the piercing to be able to wear the desired size of plugs.

a) Tapering-It is made of a tape that cannot cause infections to your ears. Then it is used by taping it around a fistula which is put in the piercing until the widest part is fully inside the piercing. A jewellery that’s wide is then pushed into the piercing depending on the size which the owner wants. What happens is that after some time, the tape is increased and put in the hole until the desired size of hole is reached. This can be a method to increase the pierce but professionals do not recommend it. It is also important, to know that tape sizes above 6mm is highly discouraged. After this process and healing, you can now look beautiful by wearing organic plugs.

b) Plugs made from silicon can be used since they are very soft. Once they have been inserted on the ear, they expand .It is not very advisable to use because it is porus. Since it becomes very tight, it can lead to infections that could spread. It is also possible for them to expand to a point of blowing out.

c) Weight-To increases the piercing: others use very heavy ornaments or jewellery to enable the piercing to stretch. It was a method that was widely used in the past.

d) Dermal punch.-A circle shaped razor of the size you want is placed on the skin where you want it, the blade is pushed downwards then twisted. A small piece of skin is removed leaving the desired size. The razor is removed and an ornament of the same size is put on the pierce. It is good since it is less painful than the other methods. Make sure you disinfect t and also treat it with warm water and salt until it is fully healed.

e) Dead stretching-It is a method that is very common. What people do is insert ornaments that are wider than the pierce. The advantages with the method is safe since it is very hard for one to have side effects if this method is used.

What Is Body Modification?

Body modification is the planned change of the body for cosmetic and non-medical reasons. Body modification isn't a modern hype, this has been around for many, many years. Body modification (or body alteration ) is the information long term or semi-permanent purposeful changing of the body for non-medical motives, frequently faith based or cosmetic .

By the late nineteen sixties, when piercings entered fashion, it was primarily from the hippy and gay and lesbian communities. That is certainly where the vast majority of stigma attached to them came from. My parents were forever warning that those who participated in body modification would be rendered unemployable. Nevertheless, despite the fact that I have since removed them, in the nineties, I had piercings and tattoo designs yet still was able to land employment in commercial finance as well as in banking institutions. Piercings are removable - but tend to leave scars. Piercing is puncturing any part of the body in order to add jewelry or ornamentation. Just like with body piercings, tattoos should be performed by specialists, not at home or by your buddy with a regular sewing needle and a container of Indian ink.

Ear piercing is probably one of the oldest known forms of body modification and can be seen all around the globe in various different cultures. Earlobe piercing is the most socially acceptable form of body piercing in industrialized countries. This has gradually evolved into ear stretching. Ear stretching has been available since the Egyptians so i don't see that type of body modification ceasing in the near future. Ear-rings are pretty much becoming an essential element of every wardrobe.

Body Modification requires an injury to the skin that requires healing. It is not something to be done lightly and it is certainly not without risk of infection or other complications. If you are going to have a piercing, a tattoo or some other type of body modification then you must make sure that it is done by a qualified person with strict hygiene standards.
